Hoylake
(1866 - )
Hoylake station was opened on July 2 1866 as part of the Hoylake Railway and was the 1st terminus for the service from Birkenhead Dock. On July 1 1872, the line was extended to the West Kirby 1st Station
The building of the railway was premature. Hoylake was, in those days, a small fishing village and most of the nearby coast was generally undeveloped and it was soon realised that the number of passengers was too small to make the line a profitable business
On July 8 1870, the line was seized by bailiffs and lay derelict. but after various Acts of Parliament the line reopened on August 1 1872
Through services to Liverpool began in 1938, when the line was electrified
