Presthope
(1867 - 1951)
Presthope railway station was sited to the east of Hughley on the line from Much Wenlock to Craven Arms and was opened in 1867 and closed in December 1951
The station served the local limestone quarries and one of the railway engineer's most difficult challenges was to push the railway through Wenlock Edge, a 19-mile limestone escarpment
which the line generally followed. He didn't do this to achieve the best alignment; his hand had been forced by resistance from local landowners. So Presthope Tunnel was driven, extending
for 207 yards and following an S-shaped course
The station site is now occupied by Presthope Grange Touring Park
