Heswall
(1886 - 1956)
The station opened on April 19 1886 with two platforms each with a canopy and waiting rooms
The line was single track but there was a passing loop at Heswall where there were goods facilities
After the station opened, the Lower Heswall area became fashionable with commuters and it made Heswall the busiest intermediate station on the whole line with numerous passengers congregating on the platforms waiting for trains
By 1932 there were 23 trains in each direction during the week but the competition from bus services and road traffic was having an effect on the viability of the railway line. By 1949, there were only 9 trains in each direction and nearby stations Thurstaton, Caldy and Kirby Park had already been closed
The owners of the railway withdrew services on September 17 1956 and goods services continued sporadically until May 7 1962
Nothing remains of the station site because of a housing development except the booking office retaining wall next to the house
