Kirby Park
(1886 - 1954)
The station opened on October 1 1894 as part of the line extension from Hooton to West Kirby
There was only 1 platform alongside the single track line with a wooden waiting room
Some of the major users of the station were schoolchildren travelling to secondary schools in West Kirby
The line became uneconomical after the end of the First World War and later the closure of Neston Colliery in 1927 caused a reduction in passenger numbers but holidaymakers used the line to travel to the seaside at Parkgate and West Kirby
The station closed on September 17 1956 and the line was lifted in 1964
In 1968, the site of the Hooton to West Kirby railway line was converted to Britain's first country park. The Wirral Way opened in 1973 with a 12 mile stretch of walkway and cycle paths
