Thurstaston
(1886 - 1954)

The station was opened on April 19 1886 as part of the extension of the line beyond Parkgate to West Kirby

The station was provided with two platforms so that trains could pass each other on the normal single track railway. There was a substantial brick building housing the booking office and there was a canopy which offered shelter to passengers. However, the canopy was later removed

A goods facility was established for the transportation of livestock

During the Second World War, the nearby village was chosen as the site for anti-aircraft defences of Birkenhead and Liverpool and the station was used to bring in munitions and other supplies

Like other stations on the line, it suffered from increased road competition and the station was also particularly remote and inconvenient for passengers. It closed its passenger services on February 5 1954 but the goods services were not withdrawn until May 7 1962
