St Michaels
(1864 - 1972 - 1978 - )
Emerging from Dingle tunnel, the line passes through "St Michael's in the Hamlet", illustrating the almost rural nature of the area. A station opened here on the original Garston & Liverpool Railway on June 1 1864
Its buildings standing firmly over the line and steps lead down to the platforms from doors at the back of the building. The station was closed in 1972 and was rebuilt and reopened in 1978 part-funded by Marks and Spencer for that company's use of the "St Michael" brand; this is recognised by a plaque at the site. It now has electric trains calling on the Merseyrail network between Southport and Hunts Cross
In 1984, the land near to St Michaels was the site of the International Garden Festival between May and October. St Michaels station became one of the busiest stations in the whole of the UK for those few months
