Warrington Central
(1873 - )

Located in Winwick Road, the station was opened in August 1873 and was used by trains serving Liverpool and Manchester with Warrington being almost mid-way between the 2 cities

In the original plans of 1865, it was intended to build the Warrington station on the line between Sankey and Padgate. However, after public pressure the line was diverted south through the centre of the town and then back north to Padgate

Since 1883, some of the trains bypassed the station on the "straight line" but since July 1968 all trains have been routed through the station
