Fazakerley formerly Aintree formerly Simonswood
(1848 - )
The Liverpool and Bury Railway line opened on November 20 1848 and one of the original stations was Simonswood. This station was renamed twice becoming Aintree by 1850 and in March 1860
it took its present name Fazakerley to avoid confusion with the nearby Aintree station on another line
The station is staffed throughout the day with a street-level ticket office. There are 2 platforms with digital display screens, timetable posters and shelters on each side; a P.A system also
provides automated train running information. The ticket office is linked to the platforms via a footbridge - this has a lift installed on each side to provide step-free access
Services run to Kirkby and Liverpool Central on an electrified line. Transfers to trains for Wigan are available at Kirkby
