Sandsend
(1883 - 1958)

Sandsend Station which opened on Decemeber 3 1883 had a single platform on the down side of the line. There was a substantial brick station building which incorporated the stationmaster’s house. There was one siding on the down side of the line running to coal drops behind the station

On this siding, camping coaches were stationed in later years

In the 1947 British comedy drama "Holiday Camp", the opening shots of a train arriving at a seaside cliff-top station and passengers boarding buses outside the station were filmed at Sandsend

On May 3 1958, the line was closed completely between Whitby West Cliff and Loftus and Sandsend Station is now a private residence, both the station building and the platform survive in good condition
