Hough Green

The station was opened in May 1874, soon after the Liverpool Central to Manchester Central CLC line
The loop line was built and opened on July 1 1879 and ran parallel to the CLC line for a short distance. It then went into a tunnel under Liverpool Road near to Ditton Primary School (now a Co-operative Store) and the line followed a route to Widnes Central and Tanhouse Lane stations in Widnes town centre
The line then re-joined the main line after Farnworth (now Widnes North) station at Widnes East Junction
The loop line was closed on October 5 1964 and Hough Green station is now part of the Merseyrail network
