St Lukes formerly Southport St Luke's formerly Southport St Luke's Road formerly Barton Street
(1883 - 1968)
It was opened by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway on 2 July 1883 as Barton Street, serving the route from Southport Chapel Street to Wigan. It was then renamed three months later as Southport
St Luke's Road. On 1 March 1902, the station was renamed again as Southport St Luke's and in May 1914 became St Luke's
When it opened trains running between Southport and Wigan, and onwards to Manchester, and to and from Ormskirk called at the station. The Preston line platform, which opened in 1902, possessed a single-storey
timber building at about its mid-point, with canopies on either side. Further along the platform towards Preston another timber structure housed the gentlemen’s toilets
Trains left from this new platform for Downholland
In summer 1932, St Lukes had 9 weekday trains to Downholland but with effect from September 26 1938 the Downholland service was withdrawn but the station still serviced other routes.
Various lines closed and St Lukes station was closed completely with effect from September 8 1968 although the trains to and from Southport Chapel Street still pass through the station
The site of the Downholland platform can still be clearly seen and the site of the other platform has been devloped with apartments
