St Helens to Ormskirk Railway
(1858 - 1956)

The St Helens to Ormskirk Railway was basically 2 lines joined together at Rainford Junction

The St Helens to Rainford section was opened in February 1858. The Skelmersdale branch Ormskirk to Rainford Junction opened in March 1858. At Rainford it connected with the St Helens Railway which ran to Runcorn Gap in Widnes. The trains in each direction were time-tabled to coincide at Rainford Junction

The St Helens branch closed in June 1951 as did the halt stations at Heys Crossing, White Moss and Westhead on the Ormskirk to Rainford branch. The Ormskirk branch closed completely in November 1956
