Coppenhall
(1837 - 1840)
Coppenhall Station opened with the Crewe to Earlstown line (GJR) on July 4 1837
Coppenhall was a halt with a cottage-style building nearby and was served by trains that conveyed first and second class passenger carriages
At the time of opening, Coppenhall had two departures in each direction Monday to Saturday but no trains called at Coppenhall on Sundays
The GJR was a success but Coppenhall station proved unsuccessful and it was closed on September 10 1840
The railway track running through the station went on to become part of the Anglo-Scottish West Coast Main Line. It was quadrupled through the site of Coppenhall in
the first half of the 20th century and electrified in 1961
