Wavertree
(1891 - 1958)


Wavertree Station opened on the main line to destinations such as Birmingham and London Euston from Liverpool Lime Street on July 13 1891 and the line became quadruple from Wavertree to Ditton Junction and the station was rebuilt at that time

The station also had stopping trains for Garston Dock

The station was originally to be called Wellington Road but the name was changed to Wavertree before opening. From 1891 the station was accessed from the 2 bridges that supported the 4 lines

A subway connected to 4 platforms situated on an embankment above street level. The platforms had waiting facilities constructed of timber but the station closed on August 5 1958 and nothing remains at track level
