Sleights
(1835 - )
Sleights Station was on the initial section of the Whitby and Pickering Railway between Whitby and Grosmont
Originally just a simple halt, it opened to horse-drawn traffic on May 1 1835, with a full public service operating from June 1835
The station platforms and the main building, were constructed eleven years later and opened in 1846 with 2 platforms for up and down line working
The former down platform had a wooden waiting shed and store and it has been re-erected on the down platform at Grosmont
The station remains open for services to Whitby and Middlesborough /Newcastle but heritage trains between Pickering and Whitby from the North York Moors Railway travel through the station,
but they are not allowed to stop
