Sutton Oak formerly Sutton
(1852 - 1951)
Sutton Oak station located west of Lancots Lane was on the St Helens and Runcorn Gap Railway which ran from St Helens in the north to the banks of the Mersey at Widnes in the south
From 1845 a number of gradients on the line that had precluded locomotive working were eased and at about this time Sutton Oak station was opened originally as 'Sutton' in 1852. It gained the 'Oak' on November 1 1864
The main facilities were on the up platform (St Helens direction) accessed from a driveway and a path that linked to Lancots Lane. A single-storey brick building was located on the up platform that housed a booking office 2 waiting rooms and toilet facilities. The down platform (Widnes direction) probably had only a basic waiting shelter at first but by the 1890s it had gained a single-storey timber building that housed a small booking office and a waiting room. The down platform was connected to street level by steps and a barrow crossing was provided at the south end of the station
The service lasted until June 18 1951 when Sutton Oak station closed as a passenger station. Passenger services operated through the site of the station after this date as the St Helens Shaw Street to St Helens Junction service used the line until it was discontinued on June 14 1965. On November 1 1981 the line closed as a through route but the sections between Sutton Manor Colliery and St. Helens Junction remained open until 1986 and the mid 1990's respectively after which the track was lifted to a point just to the north of the Sutton Oak station site
Nothing remains of the station buildings and track
