Brunswick Dock
(1893 - 1956)
The Liverpool Overhead Railway (LOR) opened to the public on March 6 1893 and Brunswick Dock was one of the original stations on the line
It had two platforms both of which were accessed from street level by stairways and both platforms were provided with timber waiting shelters
At the time of opening, Brunswick Dock had a frequent service of electric trains that ran to and from Alexandra Dock. On April 30 1894 a northern extension opened to Seaforth Sands which became the northern terminus
for the LOR
Nearby was the Brunswick Goods Depot which was the original terminus of the Cheshire Lines Liverpool to Mancheter railway
The LOR suffered air raid damage during the 2nd World War and was hit many times and Brunswick Dock received a direct hit on September 26 1940 but the station was rebuilt
In 1955, an engineering survey was carried out on the iron structure and the LOR discovered that the deck plates on which the tracks were mounted were severely corroded but the LOR did not have the finance
available and it was decided to close the LOR and the line was closed completely on December 30 1956 and Brunswick Dock station was demolished in 1957
