Carmarthen 2nd
(1902 - )

The second Carmarthen Station was opened by the Carmarthen & Cardigan Railway on December 31 1860 on its route northwards towards Conwil and Pencader and eventually Newcastle Emlyn

Carmarthen station had two facing platforms with a through line between the platforms, and a bay at the north end of the down platforms used by terminating trains. The platform on the east side was later converted to an island. There was also a bay at the south end of the down platform

The main station building was on the down side was single-storey brick construction, A canopy ran the full length of the building over the platform. A smaller building, also with a canopy, was sited on the up platform. There were a number of sidings to the south of the station on the up side

Today only the two facing platforms are normally in use and the east side of the island platform is still used as a bay

There are still facilities in the station building including the booking office, waiting room, coffee shop, toilets and a BT police office. The down platform building has been demolished
