Eaton Hall
(1901 - 1952)


The Eaton Hall Branch was an early minimum gauge estate railway built in 1896 at Eaton Hall in Cheshire. The line, which connected the Grosvenor estate with sidings at Balderton on the Wrexham to Chester Line about 3 miles away

The branch line was used mainly to bring deliveries of fuel to Eton Hall plus supplies of timber, road metal and bricks. Sometimes, the train carried passengers but there were no intermediate stations

Eaton Hall railway closed in 1946 and was lifted in 1947. A new 15 inch railway, named the Eaton Park Railway was opened in 1994. It is available for use by the public only on the various garden open days
