Rossett
(1846 - 1964)


Rossett Station was opened on the Chester to Wrexham Railway on November 4 1846

The main facilities were located on the Wrexham side of the station with another building on the other platform containing waiting and toilet facilities

Rossett was provided with goods facilities which included sidings and a goods shed

At the time of opening, six trains in each direction on weekdays ran between Chester and Wrexham

By December 1895, Rossett had eight up and seven down trains on Monday to Saturday. On Sunday there were two up and three down services

The July 1922 timetable showed eleven up and nine down trains on Monday to Saturday. On Sunday there were three services in each direction

Rossett was listed in the 1963 ‘Beeching Report’ for closure and it closed to passengers on October 26 1964 and closed for goods services on October 7 1968

The station remained intact after closure and it was used for a time by a number of special trains that were run for the nearby Moreton Hall Girls’ School
