Whitby West Cliff
(1883 - 1961)

The station was opened on December 12 1883 without goods facilities but these were developed later and included 6 coal cells and a goods warehouse

The main station building was a substantial brick-built structure incorporating the stationmaster's house which was located on the Up platform where there was also a signalbox. There was also a brick building on the Down platform that included a long covered waiting area

In the 1930's, the layout was modified to provide a 3rd platform of wooden construction to accommodate the shuttle service to nearby Whitby Town station

For many years after closure in June 1961, the station was used as a council depot. The site was redeveloped for residential housing in the 2000's and all the remaining station buildings on both platforms were converted to private residential units. The covered waiting area on the Down platform has been retained as a car port
