Birkenhead Grange Lane
(1840 - 1844)

The station was the northern terminus of the Chester to Birkenhead railway which opened on September 23 1840

There was only one platform with goods sidings and five trains in each direction used the station

By December 15 1840 a number of passing loops had been installed along the line and the train service frequency was increased

Trains departed from Birkenhead Grange Lane every 2 hours between 8.20am and 6.20pm but there needed to be a link with a Mersey Ferry and a new terminus was opened at Monks Ferry on October 24 1844

This meant that Birkenhead Grange Lane station was no longer required and was closed

A small section of the original Birkenhead Grange Lane station was still standing behind the advertisement hoarding
