Woodside
(1878 - 1967)

The Woodside station was opened on March 31 1878 as the new terminus of the Chester to Birkenhead Railway replacing Monks Ferry station. It was a large building but only had five short but wide platforms under the enormous roof and was built very close to the Liverpool ferry terminal

Express train services ran to London Paddington station and local services ran to Chester, Warrington and North Wales

The station was busy up to the Beeching Report claimed that many of the services were duplicated from Liverpool Lime Street and in March 1967 the London expresses were withdrawn

The hourly Woodside to Chester remained until November 5 1967 when the service terminated at Rock Ferry and connected to Merseyrail services to Liverpool

The station was demolished within a few years and is now a Bus depot
