Kenyon Junction formerly Bolton Junction
(1830 - 1961)
The L&M railway line opened in September 1830 but Kenyon Junction didn't appear in the company timetable until March 1 1831. It closed to passengers on January 2 1961
The station was originally called Bolton Junction until renamed as Kenyon Junction in June 1842
The Kenyon & Leigh Junction Railway from Bolton made an end-on connection with the Liverpool & Manchester Railway at Kenyon Station in 1831
Over the years the station developed into a substantial four platform station with buildings provided on each platform. The main buildings being situated on the Liverpool bound platform of the 1830 line
Two straight platform faces served the Liverpool and Manchester line whilst two curved platform faces served the Bolton line and the platforms where connected by a covered footbridge
Substantial goods facilities and sidings developed around the station
The first passenger service to be withdrawn was the Bolton service which ended on March 27 1954 and the L&M part of the station closed on January 2 1961 and nothing remains of the site
