Hooton Platforms 6 and 7
(1840 - 1956)

The original station was opened on April 23 1840 with services on the Chester to Birkenhead line

It was expanded on July 1 1863 when a branch from Hooton to Helsby via Ince was opened, Further expansion took place on October 1 1866 when another branch to Parkgate was opened and later extended to West Kirby on April 19 1886

The West Kirby service was allocated platforms 6 and 7 at Hooton and operated until September 17 1956 when the services to West Kirby were withdrawn and all the intermediate stations on the line were closed

The platforms were allowed to fall into disrepair but the track was not lifted until 1964 when the platforms were fenced off from the rest of the station. Platform 7 is now the start of the footpath for the Wirral Country Park
