Parkgate 2nd
(1886 - 1956)
The second Parkgate station opened on April 19 1886 as part of the extension of the Hooton line to West Kirby
The station was built on an embankment with 2 wooden platforms with a waiting room and canopy on each platform and a passing place on the single track line. The platforms were linked
via a subway
Goods facilities were provided with 3 sidings and a livestock dock
By the 1940s, most of the ticket revenue was collected from the soap workers who travelled to Lever Brothers factory in Port Sunlight via Hooton
The line suffered from road competition and the station closed on September 17 1956
