West Kirby BJR
(1886 - 1956)

The station opened on April 19 1886 when the 2nd extension from Hooton was completed and it was close to the terminus of the Seacombe, Hoylake and Deeside Railway (SH&DR) which ran from West Kirby to Birkenhead

There was a single platform with 2 modest buildings, a run-around line, a turntable and a water tower

Frequently, the idea of combining the 2 stations into 1 was discussed but nothing materialised. In July 1891, SH&DR had been renamed as the Wirral Railway (WR) and WR built a new station which opened in 1896

By the mid 1950s, the number of passengers had declined to such an extent that passenger services were withdrawn and the station closed on September 17 1956

The lines were not lifted until 1964 and the station became derelict until early 1970s when a new road was built across the site
