Neston South formerly Neston
(1866 - 1956)
Neston South station opened on October 1 1866 as Neston station on the Hooton to Parkgate line
The station was provided with a substantial brick building which included a 2 storey house for the station master. Facilities included a booking office, a waiting room and a lamp room. Only a single track passed through the station so only 1 platform was provided
Goods facilities were provided comprising 2 sidings, 1 serving as a cattle dock and there was a 10-ton crane in the goods yard
On May 18 1896, another line was opened passing through Neston in a north/south direction and crossing over the original branch line to the west of Neston station. The new line was provided with its own station at Neston which was closer to the village centre
