A temporary station was opened on April 2 1940 during the 2nd World War which was to serve an adjacent ordnance factory
In a dilapidated state the station was closed on April 6 1964
In the 1970s, a housing development was built on the site of the former factory
A new station called Birchwood was opened on February 7 1981 a short distance west of Risley
