Widnes formerly Widnes North formerly Widnes (for Farnworth)
(1874 - )

It opened as Farnworth (for Widnes) in August 1873 but was over a mile from the town centre and the early traffic tended to use the Widnes loop line bypassing Farnworth

After the closure of Widnes Central on the ex-LNER line on February 1 1959, this station was re-named Widnes North. Nationalisation of the railways brought more trains to the station and there were now good links to Liverpool, Manchester, Hull and Nottingham

When Widnes South station closed in 1968 Widnes North became the only railway station within the Borough boundary. It was renamed Widnes and is now operated by the Northern Rail network
